Description of the Position: The Department of Mathematics at the University of Rochester invites applications for an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, with the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction to augment the Department's very successful undergraduate program. The Department graduates approximately 100 majors/year and offers a broad range of undergraduate courses to many other students. The Assistant DUGS will, through a variety of activities, help the Director of Undergraduate Studies support the instructional mission of the Department. Credentials: A Ph.D. in Mathematics and two or more years of postdoctoral teaching experience required; evidence of excellence in teaching; and the documented superior organizational skills and experience needed to help manage a large major and broad undergraduate program at a STEM-intensive institution. Duties: Teaching 4 undergraduate courses per year, with 3 of those at the freshman/sophomore level. Supervising undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants: interviewing and selecting UG TAs before each semester, and then overseeing their training, monitoring and evaluation during the semester. General advising: staffing advising events at orientation, before registration and walk-in advising in the Department. Authorized signer for transfer credit approval. Major advising: authorized signer for changes to majors and minors. WeBWorK setup: entering TAs into course WeBWorK accounts; supervising WeBWorK TAs. Term: A 3 year contract; renewable upon satisfactory performance.
