Lecturers also can teach in summer and winter mini-terms and receive the highest priority for those additional teaching opportunities. Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Distinguished Lecturers in the Mathematics Department at the University of Tennessee are an integral part of the educational mission of the university. Lecturers of all ranks contribute to pedagogically innovative teaching/learning and hold a variety of service roles in the Department, College, and Campus including serving on the University Faculty Senate. Several Senior and Distinguished Lecturers engage in the professional development of graduate teaching assistants as part of the departmental GTA Teaching Advising Program. Others network with Math Instructors from other institutions through the MAA CoMInDS project. Outstanding lecturers with a Ph.D. in mathematics may have the opportunity to teach and mentor students as part of the department’s unique online Master of Mathematics (MM) program aimed at working high school teachers.
