The Department of Mathematics at UW-Madison is seeking a Director of the Math Learning
Center (MLC). One of the largest on campus, Mathematics is home to
nearly 400 workers including faculty, academic staff, university staff,
pre- and postdoctoral trainees; as well as graduate and undergraduate
student employees. Each year, the MLC provides support to thousands of
undergraduate students taking mathematics courses through a variety of
programs and services. This position offers a dynamic work environment
with opportunities to oversee and organize the day-to-day operations of
the MLC, supervise its permanent and temporary employees, and to
continue to expand and grow the offerings of the MLC as needs arise. Principal Duties: Oversee the regular daily operations of the Math Learning Center including
organization, oversight, and evaluation of current programming. The individual in the role will be
responsible for promotion and growth of the Center, assess needs of at-risk students
recruited for the tutorial program, hiring and supervising tutors and
undergraduate course assistants, and budget administration for Center expenses. Teaching Duties: Teach two undergraduate Mathematics courses per academic year, 1 per semester. Qualifications: PhD in Mathematics or related field required Minimum 3 years teaching university-level Mathematics (5 or more years preferred) Demonstrated knowledge of learning strategies and effective pedagogies Demonstrated commitment to supporting academic achievement of students Demonstrated organizational, planning, and coordination skills Preference
will be given to candidates who have experience in curricular
development and assessment, budget management and/or securing
