The Department of Mathematics at the University of Dayton invites applications for a two-year appointment as visiting assistant professor  to begin August 16, 2023. The Department of Mathematics has a diverse faculty with a broad range of research interests. More than thirty percent of our faculty are women, and close to half of our current majors are women.  The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary with full benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, and retirement benefits.


The current faculty in the department actively engage in collaborative research with a variety of departments within the university, as well as organizations outside the university. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda in an area of mathematics or statistics. The candidate is expected to participate in the life of the Department of Mathematics, and to work with students from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds. The teaching load consists of three courses per semester including service courses populated primarily by non-majors.

 Minimum Qualifications

·      ABD nearing completion of all requirements for the PhD in an area of mathematics or statistics at the time of application.

·      Potential to become an effective teacher of mathematics or statistics courses.

·       Active research in an area of mathematics or statistics.

·       Effective written communications skills.

 Application Process

A complete application consists of a:

·       cover letter that addresses all minimum and any applicable preferred qualifications met, 

·       CV, 

·       a statement of research agenda, 

·       a statement describing your approach to teaching 

·       a list of all courses for which they have had teaching duties. For each course, applicants must explain the nature of the course, as well as the level of responsibility for the course content, assignments, tests, grading, and presentation of the course material. In particular, the applicant must state “teaching assistant” or “instructor of record” for each course listed.

·       an unofficial graduate school transcript (which must confirm the PhD if it has been earned at time of application).

·       contact information for the writers of two letters of recommendation.  Teaching abilities must be addressed in at least one letter and research abilities must be addressed in at least one letter. 

·       Applicants whose PhD has not been conferred at the time of application or is not reflected on their transcript, must submit a statement from their degree-granting department indicating the anticipated date for conferral of the PhD degree.

Special instructions:

·       Application deadline is March 9, 2023 (the application website closes at 11:55 PM EST).  All letters of recommendation will be solicited on March 10, 2023, and are due on March 20, 2023. Teaching abilities must be addressed in at least one recommendation letter and research abilities must be addressed in at least one letter. 

·        Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
