The Department of Mathematics at Ohio University invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor of Instruction in Mathematics beginning in Fall 2023. The position is not tenure track, but it is renewable yearly assuming continuing need and satisfactory performance, with long-term contracts and promotion to Associate Professor of Instruction possible after five years. INVITE Faculty. This position is part of Ohio University’s Innovative Inclusive Teaching Excellence (INVITE) faculty hiring initiative. Through this initiative, Ohio University seeks to advance Ohio University’s commitment to ensuring the individual success of each student, to closing equity gaps in student success, and to graduating students on time with the skills to move into graduate studies or their career of choice. INVITE faculty will champion excellence in teaching and learning practices through inclusive/innovative pedagogy, evidence-based teaching, equitable achievement of learning outcomes, and student mentoring. INVITE faculty will serve as Faculty Fellows in the Ohio University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA), and will act as a resource for other faculty to support inclusive and innovative pedagogy in critical courses that have a high impact on student retention and success in their discipline. INVITE faculty will participate in an inclusive pedagogy learning community to support each other’s work as well as the work of other faculty members. The INVITE faculty hiring initiative is part of Ohio University’s broader commitment supporting Ohio University faculty throughout all the phases of their careers. 20% of effort will be in service, with initial focus on co-requisite courses and other mechanisms for student support. 80% of effort will be in teaching, split roughly as: 20% initially as a Faculty Fellow as described above, eventually transitioning into a course coordinator or other department role, and 60% teaching Mathematics courses used for general education.
