Lawrence University, a liberal arts college and conservatory of music in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a two year-renewable full-time position with benefits as Lecturer of Mathematics to begin September 1, 2023. A PhD or master’s degree in Mathematics, Math education or closely related field is required by job start date.

The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science seeks an excellent teacher who is passionate about working with undergraduates in a liberal arts setting. Candidates should be enthusiastic to teach introductory level courses such as precalculus and calculus. We encourage innovative pedagogy and inventive teaching to help us create a more inclusive Lawrence and offer teaching support through our new Center for Teaching Excellence. This position carries a half-time teaching load of 3-courses per year (spread over three ten-week terms), with additional responsibilities for tutoring and placement. Responsibilities for this position include offering regular open student hours to support students in all introductory math classes (roughly 10 hours per week), coordinating student tutors, organizing outreach to further support struggling students, and assisting with math placement. There will be opportunities to engage with department faculty on new student-support structures and help develop curriculum for our entry-level students.

Complete applications will include a cover letter addressing interest in Lawrence in particular, a curriculum vitae, statements on teaching, and diversity, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and the contact information for three references who will be asked directly by Lawrence University to provide a letter of recommendation (two of which attest specifically to teaching). Evaluation of applications will begin April 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. Please submit electronic copies to http://lawrence.peopleadmin.com.

We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Lawrence by: (1) further diversifying the faculty; and/or (2) demonstrating experience with successful diversity-related initiatives, creative activity or research; and (3) demonstrating interest in developing inclusive pedagogy to address the needs of a diverse student body, particularly as these pedagogies relate to antiracism.

Lawrence’s diverse student body comprises 1500 undergraduates from 47 states and D.C. and more than 45 countries. Appleton has consistently been listed among the best places to live in the U.S., with Lawrence routinely meriting similar national distinction. Candidates are encouraged to read more about Lawrence at https://lawrence.peopleadmin.com as well as www.lawrence.edu/ and Colleges That Change Lives.
