Bibliographer for Celebratio Mathematica

MSP publishes works in and about mathematics, including research journals and a website that celebrates the people of mathematics, Celebratio Mathematica (celebratio.org).

The bibliographer for Celebratio Mathematica will assemble complete bibliographies for mathematicians to be profiled in Celebratio Mathematica, by combining a variety of online sources into an enriched BibTeX bibliography adhering to a strict style and format.

The work is done remotely, and requires a computer and access to MathSciNet.

Requirements:

  • attention to detail and thoroughness
  • ability to recognize and correct errors of fact or inconsistencies
  • ability to search, find and combine information from a range of sources
  • ability to adhere strictly to our standards of bibliographical style and format
  • fluency with a text editor (vim, emacs, or other plain-text/programming editor)
  • experience with LaTeX and especially BibTeX
  • basic understanding of bibliographic databases (MathSciNet, zbMath, etc.) and how they work
  • subscription access to MathSciNet

Fluency and/or reading knowledge of one or more major world languages (other than English) is a plus.

The work load is highly variable but is expected to initially average ten hours per month. After demonstrated competency, an extension of the work to bibliographic work for our research journals (msp.org/journals) is possible, and would considerably increase the workload. Research articles require attention to author-supplied bibliographies, with a view toward completeness, accuracy and uniformity.

This is a position for an independent contractor. If residing in the US, you must be authorized to work in the US. Pay rates are based on experience and productivity. The starting range is US$19–22/hour.

We encourage women, people of color, and LGBT+ folks to apply. Please respond with cover letter and resume. Applications without these will not be considered.
