Working Title: Lecturer/ Instructor in Mathematics Appointment Type: Full Time

Purpose of Position: The Department of Mathematics at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer/Instructor in Mathematics, effective August 2023. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. This position is open to all areas of mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. Faculty members are expected to teach at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, perform rank appropriate service to the department and university, and maintain disciplinary expertise.

The Doctorate in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Statistics or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer. Individuals who are ABD and will not hold the Doctorate by the time of appointment and/or possess a master’s degree in a related field may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.

Departmental Information: The Department of Mathematics consists of seventeen full-time faculty with expertise in various areas of mathematics. We offer both traditional Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs, as well as a Computational and Applied Mathematics degree in which a student can combine mathematics with a specialization in biology, economics, physics or electrical engineering. Additionally, every student at Christopher Newport University must complete at least six credits of mathematics courses.
