Position Description Founded in 1897, Piedmont University is a private, comprehensive liberal arts university with an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students at campuses in Demorest and Athens, Georgia.
The faculty in the Mathematical Sciences Department at Piedmont University seek a full-time Instructor of Mathematics who will teach undergraduate courses.
The position entails a 4/4 teaching load, which would include four courses each during the fall and spring semesters. Specific teaching responsibilities will be to teach General Education and other introductory-level courses, such as Elementary Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Mathematics for the Liberal Arts. These courses would be primarily taught face-to-face on our Demorest campus, but teaching responsibilities may include an occasional online course.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: - Effective classroom teaching and interacting with students in a professional manner;
- Maintaining accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and advisement;
- Maintaining high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses;
- Filing accurate course syllabi with the School of Arts and Sciences each semester;
- Maintaining an understanding of college policies and the curriculum and degree requirements of the programs in their field;
- Participating in departmental, school, and college faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate;
- Contributing to the ongoing operation of their respective department and school;
Assessing their job performance including teaching effectiveness, advisement, scholarship and service via an annual self-evaluation in accordance with official college procedure;
- Assuring their availability to students, faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping at least ten office hours per week;
- Maintaining a professional level of scholarship by continuous study, research, and attendance and participation at professional meetings.
- These activities are supported by the college through departmental travel funds and the faculty development program
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Successful incumbents will hold a Master's degree in Mathematics or a related field.
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
Use of or familiarity with active learning strategies and student-centered policies preferred.
Licenses and Certification Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Working knowledge of teaching courses in a higher education environment.
Ability to combine several pieces of information and draw conclusions.
