HEAD OF DEPARTMENT,
THE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES,
UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN

We are looking for a Head of Department for the Department of Mathematical Sciences (MATH) at the Faculty of Science (SCIENCE). The position commences on 1 September 2023 or soon thereafter.

The Department conducts research in pure and applied mathematics and
educates bachelors, master’s graduates and PhD graduates with mathematics expertise and skills at the highest international level.

In addition to positions of strength in classical mathematical main subject areas such as algebra, geometry and analysis, the research activities include strong groups in more applied disciplines such as actuarial mathematics, finance, operational analysis, mathematical biology, statistics, data science and quantum information theory.

The research is international and interacts with other disciplines such as physics, computer science and medicine, as well as with industry and the rest of society. It consequently contributes with broad value creation in both the short term and the long term.

MATH has a strong and dynamic scientific environment that enjoys great international prestige. This is also reflected in a highly successful funding activity, sought after degree programmes with a very high demand for graduates among prospective employers and a strong collaboration with a number of sectors in society.
