The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at The College of Wooster invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics to start in August 2023. The department has eighteen faculty and offers majors in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistical & Data Sciences, graduating 55-70 seniors each year across the three fields.

The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of six courses annually, including credited mentorship of senior thesis projects. These courses will include a mix of first-year courses (such as calculus) and mid/upper-level courses fitting with the candidate’s experience. Applicants from all mathematical subfields are welcome.

We place a strong emphasis on experiential learning, with every student completing a year-long senior thesis project and many participating in our unique Applied Methods & Research Experience summer consulting program (AMRE). The candidate’s research statement should include how their research might engage with Wooster’s Independent Study program.

We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a racially, socioeconomically, and culturally diverse student body, including 24% domestic students of color, 15% international students, and 25% Pell-eligible students. Courses in the MCS department attract a particularly diverse group of students, with our majors almost equally split between domestic and international students. The diversity statement should discuss the candidate's experience working with students from different backgrounds, ideas for building a more inclusive classroom, and their engagement with issues of diversity on campus or in the broader community.

A Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field is preferred, with ABD candidates in these fields also considered. Please submit through MathJobs.com a cover letter, CV, unofficial graduate transcripts, teaching statement (max of 2 pages), research statement (max of 2 pages), diversity statement (max of 2 pages), and three reference letters. Questions concerning the search process should be directed to Drew Pasteur, Search Committee Chair, at rpasteur@wooster.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
