Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning Fall 2023, with the potential for renewal for a second year. The area of specialty is open. The department especially invites candidates who can contribute to the college-wide goal of diversifying our faculty.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field by August 2023. In your cover letter, please address your interest in teaching at a liberal arts college and how your experiences with teaching, scholarship, and/or service might contribute to a college community whose core values include a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Providing an outstanding undergraduate education is the primary mission of the College, and applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The typical teaching load is 3-1-3. All faculty members are expected to participate fully in the life of the department and College.

Birmingham-Southern College is a residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 800 undergraduate students. BSC is included in Pope’s Colleges that Change Lives and is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa. The college recently endured a funding crisis and is in the process of rebuilding the faculty and staff. The college is open to helping solve the “two-body” problem for applicants whose spouse/partner is also seeking employment in higher education.
