The Institute for Mathematics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Heidelberg University invites applications for a

Full-Professorship (W3) in “Mathematical Statistics” (f/m/d)

The research interests of a successful applicant should complement the existing research groups at the Institute for Mathematics in the area of Mathematical Statistics. We are looking for a mathematician with an excellent research track record, for example in statistical learning, high-dimensional statistical inference or related areas.

The successful candidate will be embedded in a vibrant, internationally leading mathematical research environment, offering in particular opportunities to join and participate in the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) and in the DFG Cluster of Excellence STRUCTURES.

In the context of the university’s excellence strategy, applicants are expected to engage with existing and new collaborative research initiatives and to play an active role in obtaining third party funding.

Applicants are expected to have an excellent publication and research record. Participation in the administrative tasks of the institute and the faculty is expected, as well teaching at all levels. This includes especially the planned Masters program “Mathematics of Machine Learning and Data Science“, but also to partake in the provision of the foundational mathematics modules.

Prerequisites for an application are a university degree, a qualified Doctorate, successful teaching experience and (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications.
