The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for a one-year visiting bipartite (teaching and service) non-tenure-track Assistant Professor or Instructor to teach Mathematics both in-person and online, to begin Fall 2023. The position requires successful experience teaching mathematics at the undergraduate level. Experience with both traditional (i.e., face-to-face lecture) and distance education (i.e., online asynchronous) formats are preferred. A PhD in Mathematics or a very closely related field is preferred. (The department also plans to search in the Fall for a continuing non-tenure-track bipartite faculty member, to begin Fall 2024.) The
teaching portion of this position will consist of using a variety of
modalities for delivering courses in mathematics, including face-to-face
teaching, online synchronous teaching, and online asynchronous
teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching any 100-
and 200+-level course in mathematics, with the exception of Math
211/212, and may include occasional upper-division mathematics courses
or statistics courses depending on the successful applicant’s experience
and the needs of the department. The successful applicant will be
responsible for teaching mathematics courses in a manner that is
consistent with the specified course content descriptions, associated
standards, and approved syllabi. Faculty members are expected to hold
office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.
Service
responsibilities include maintaining and developing curricula in
the areas of general education mathematics courses and foundational
service courses for STEM degrees, serving on departmental committees and
university committees, and doing outreach and public service.
