The School Mathematics & Statistics is looking to recruit a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the development of mathematical theories, modelling and simulation of liquid crystal phases and devices working with Prof. Nigel Mottram and collaborators. This project aims to support and advance ongoing projects in the mathematical modelling of liquid crystals at the University of Glasgow, including projects that consider micro-display modelling, the role of defects and confinement in nematic liquid crystals and free-surface effects. As well as assisting in the further development of these projects, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own independent lines of research, mentored by Prof. Mottram. There will also be opportunities to develop collaborations and apply for personal research funding, for instance in the form of fellowships. Applicants are expected to have research experience in the modelling of liquid crystal fluids, fluid dynamics and the simulation of liquid crystal devices using continuum theory.
