Assistant Professor in Statistics/Data Science

Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science at York University invites highly qualified applicants for two to three (2-3) Assistant Professor positions in Statistics/Data Science. This is a tenure-track appointment to the professorial stream with a start date of July 1, 2024.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics views these positions as a key step towards continuing to build York University into one of the top universities in Canada for Statistics and Data Science in research reputation and in post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate training. Our vision is for statistics and data science to be a common thread that brings together great researchers from across the university, top graduate and undergraduate students, and industrial partners, and for data science to be the focus of outstanding interdisciplinary and applied research that further raises York’s reputation and prestige.

Candidate Qualifications:

·      Degree: PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start in Statistics or Data Science or a closely related field is required.

·      Scholarship:

o  A coherent and well-articulated program of research and specialization in: Statistics and/or Data Science.

o  A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level.

o  A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, major presentations, awards and accolades)

·      Teaching:


o  A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and peer evaluations).


o  Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.


·      Additional:


Ability to contribute to the teaching for the data science program.

·      Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
