OVERVIEW

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Utah State University invites applications for the position of Lecturer at the Brigham City campus of Utah State University (USU) with a preferred start date of August 1, 2023 (with an option to defer start until January 1, 2024). The position is an academic year (nine-month), non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. Outstanding performance can lead to promotion to Senior Lecturer and subsequently to Principal Lecturer. The Department has over 45 faculty members, including more than 35 on the Logan campus and 10 on statewide campuses. This position will be based on the Brigham City campus to serve as a university and department ambassador to students in that campus service region (primarily Box Elder, Weber, and Davis Counties). 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Major responsibilities include teaching courses (originating from the Brigham City campus) in lower division and developmental statistics and data science, modeling high-quality undergraduate mathematics and statistics pedagogical strategies, and innovative undergraduate teaching. It may also involve teaching courses in lower division and developmental mathematics. This position has no research responsibilities. Because most courses from the Brigham City campus include distance delivery to a statewide audience of students, experience in broadcast or online teaching is desirable. Additional responsibilities include effective participation in the operation and shared governance of the Department, the Brigham City campus, and the University, including academic organizations related to mathematical/statistical education, and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Mathematics/Statistics Education, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience 
  • At least 18 credit hours of graduate-level mathematics or statistics content with statistics being preferred 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical programming using R
  • A record of effective Statistics teaching at university level 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in broadcast or online teaching 
  • Doctoral degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Mathematics/Statistics Education, or related fields
