Position Description
The position of Math Lab Director is available in the Department
of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences. The official title is in the Lecturer title
series, with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This appointment carries an initial one-year appointment beginning with the 2024/2025
academic year, on August 19, 2024. The
appointment is renewable based on positive performance reviews. Earned master’s or doctorate in the area of
mathematics, math education, applied mathematics, statistics, or related field
required by August 19, 2024.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, schedule, and supervise undergraduate tutors in the Math Lab, which serves a variety of classes including Algebra for Calculus, Elementary Statistics, and Calculus I and II.
- Teach a course in Tutoring Techniques to new tutors each semester.
- Teach 8 credits of other undergraduate math courses per semester.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will
- present evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
- possess a commitment to equity and inclusiveness in teaching.
- demonstrate strong organizational and supervisory skills.
- exhibit potential for excellence in training tutors.
- demonstrate ability to teach mathematics courses for non-majors.
- be work-authorized in the United States.
The Department is especially interested in applicants who bring
diverse perspectives to the University, and those who may be especially
effective in mentoring and advising students who are members of groups that
have been historically underrepresented in the discipline.
