The Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University seeks applicants for several faculty positions at the rank of lecturer, senior lecturer, or distinguished senior lecturer with a start date of July 1, 2024.

The initial appointment is for a 3-year period (renewable with potential for promotion and longer-term contracts). The position involves teaching four undergraduate courses per year, academic advising, and engaging with the department’s and the university’s intellectual culture. Lecturers participate fully in faculty meetings and departmental initiatives. The teaching for this position will focus primarily on our first- and second-year applied mathematics and statistics courses, though there may also be opportunities to teach upper-level undergraduate courses, depending on expertise and department needs. We strive to build a diverse and inclusive environment for all members of our community, and are particularly interested in candidates whose experience, teaching, service, or scholarship can further these efforts. Our department’s vision and action plan for diversity fits within Brown’s broader commitment to this work.

The department has 21 tenure-stream and 2 lecturer-stream faculty members and offers a vibrant community for both research and teaching. We are a founding partner of Brown’s Data Science Institute and participate in the NSF-funded Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, a CV, a teaching statement, a diversity statement (which can be included in the teaching statement), a research statement (or a statement describing other significant professional activities beyond classroom instruction), and teaching evaluations that cover all courses taught during the last three years. The diversity statement should summarize your past and planned contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which may arise from teaching/mentoring, outreach, lived experience, or other activities.
