Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, we have trained hundreds of thousands of the country’s top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, through the years we have expanded our unique problem solving curriculum into subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science. As we continue to develop new products and scale and improve our existing educational products, we seek a Director of Data to lead a team that harnesses the data we collect to drive the development and improvement of our educational offerings. This is a new position that reports to the VP of Technology and Design. In this role, you’ll lead a small data team and work closely with product leadership, engineering, and other teams across the company. In this role, you will: *Oversee the Data team by leading the hiring, training, work allocation, and culture building for a team of Data Analysts and Data Scientists *Do hands-on work in conducting exploratory and confirmatory data analysis, designing experiments, defining key metrics, and building dashboards *In all hands-on work, collaborate closely with stakeholders across the company to gather context, iterate on investigations, design reports, and communicate findings *Collaborate with Engineering to design data collection and reporting infrastructure and improve data quality *Create a data-driven culture by partnering with other teams to understand their data needs and building resources/training to increase data knowledge across the company *Work with product and business leaders to develop strategies for using our data to improve pedagogical and business outcomes *Establish the data domain by developing workflows, processes, standards, and best practices for analysis, review, and experimentation Examples of projects you and your team will be tackling: *Analyzing how students use resources such as hints on homework problems to inform a redesign of our online homework system *Building dashboards that capture the primary business health metrics of our Beast Academy online learning platform, our AoPS Online School text-based and self-paced classes, our Virtual Campus video-based classes, and our in-person AoPS Academy learning centers *Develop algorithms for an adaptive Beast Academy curriculum for millions of elementary school students Preferred Skills/Experience *At least 4 years experience in a data role *Experience in a management or other leadership role *Proficiency with SQL, Python, and standard data visualization tools *Experience leading multiple strategic projects and working collaboratively across teams *Excellent problem-solving, organization, communication, and collaboration skills Perks and Benefits: This is a hybrid full-time position based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA. The full salary range for this position is 150 - 180k, with a variable year-end bonus based on individual and company performance.
