The programmatic activities are designed to support educators and students at all levels. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide leadership for the education portfolio and efforts supporting education in the mathematical sciences. Advance involvement in centralizing efforts supporting student preparation for, and success in, educational programs leading to advanced degrees or employment in the mathematical sciences. Develop virtual and in person educational activities, programs, and events that support the AMS mission. Maintain Education webpages in cooperation with the Programs Department and the Office of Government Relations. Support/coordinate interactions with external entities regarding education requests for AMS support and collaboration. Cultivate relationships with representatives of funding agencies. Develop and submit grant applications and funding proposals to expand educational programmatic activities and staffing necessary to administer grant supported programs. Study long-range needs of the mathematical sciences community, and work with the Programs Department to determine feasible and sustainable data collection and analysis activities meeting those needs. Serve as staff liaison for select AMS committees. Liaise with Directors outside MPS. Work in collaboration with the Office of Government Relations and the Committee on Education. Perform other or similar related duties as requested or assigned. Promote divisional activities to support communities traditionally marginalized and/or underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Coordinate workflow and strategize with staff in departments across the AMS. Participate in strategic planning to build mutually beneficial programs and projects with external organizations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: As delegated by the AED, lead projects and provide guidance for collaborative work with AMS Officers and Directors of the MPS Division. Serve as liaison involving collaborations to support the mission of the AMS with external groups. Supervise education staff (assistant and program specialist). QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions listed above satisfactorily. Earned doctorate in one of the mathematical sciences or education; management experience a plus. Experience writing grant proposals and managing grant-supported projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with the mathematical community. Strong interest in professional programs and related services, meetings, and membership organizations. Significant academic and administrative experience and familiarity with Ph.D. programs in the mathematical sciences. Ability to address issues constructively, building cooperative relationships within and across departments outside of the organization with higher education societies, institutes, associations, programs, and funding agencies.
