JOB SUMMARY
The Statistics Department in the Bailey College
of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis
Obispo, is seeking applications to fill a full-time, academic year,
tenure-track position, with appointment beginning September 16, 2024. Rank and
salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual
selected.

Cal Poly embraces a teacher-scholar model in which faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, produce scholarship in their field of interest, and provide service to the institution. The selected candidate will consider using creative lecture and laboratory teaching approaches that include current and emerging technologies to enhance student learning and will participate in scholarly practices such as peer-reviewed research, statistical consulting, conference presentations, and grant development that leads to publication. The selected candidate will pursue a systematic program of research and scholarship, curricular improvement, and participation in service activities such as committee service, student advising, and building industry relationships.
Primary responsibilities will include teaching introductory and upper-level statistics and data science classes for statistics majors and minors. Additional responsibilities may also include teaching introductory statistics courses to non-majors as well as master’s level statistics courses and supervising graduate students.
It is expected that the successful applicant is committed to quality undergraduate and master’s level teaching, continued scholarly activity, and service to the University. Candidates with an interest in and ability to pursue scholarly projects with students at both the bachelor’s and master’s level are preferred.
If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring
range is $86,580 - $96,408.
If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the
anticipated hiring range is $102,648 - $107,508.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in
Statistics or closely related discipline.
·
Demonstrated
experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as
the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings.

Demonstrated
proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.

Must provide
evidence of (or potential for) high quality teaching and research with
students.

Must provide
evidence of (or potential for) scholarly productivity.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Statistics Department offers a B.S. in
Statistics, an M.S. in Statistics, and minor programs in statistics and
actuarial preparation, and a cross-disciplinary minor in data science in
partnership the Computer Science Department. The department also provides
support courses for most majors at Cal Poly, as well as some graduate programs,
and contributes many courses to the general education program. In support of
campus scholarship activities, the department also runs a statistical
consulting service. The department faculty is comprised of 21 tenured/tenure-track
