The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Smith College invites applications for a three-year renewable, benefits eligible position in Mathematics to begin July 1, 2024, at the rank of Core Lecturer. A core lecturer is a continuing, but non-tenure-track member of the faculty whose primary responsibility is teaching. The position includes access to research funds and a track to promotion to Senior Lecturer. Duties for this position will regularly include teaching five courses per year, serving on departmental committees and advising students working on special studies and honors theses. Typically, the teaching assignments will include coordination of one or more of the team-taught Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Discrete Mathematics courses. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate education, innovation, and inclusion in an undergraduate liberal arts context. A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a relevant field is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups historically and systemically excluded in STEM are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have a strong track record in undergraduate teaching, positive experience as coordinator of diverse teaching teams, proven success in teaching in a liberal arts environment, and leadership in curriculum development for inquiry-based learning and culturally relevant pedagogy. Although not required, we will value candidates with evidence of leadership in research on mathematics and STEM education and implications for gender and marginalized student inclusion in mathematics teaching and learning and leadership in developing equity in STEM.
