The Mathematics Department seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow working on mathematical biology, with a focus on designing, rigorously analyzing, and parameterizing realistic mathematical models for providing insight and understanding on the spread and control of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases of major public health importance. Expertise in generating and integrating human behavior-related and microclimate data into epidemiological models is an additional advantage. The candidate is expected to work with Professor Abba Gumel mainly on modeling, qualitative analysis, integrating data into models, parameter estimation, and uncertainty quantification. Aspects related to the theory and application of relevant machine-learning tools are also welcome. This position will also involve teaching in the Department of Mathematics. The University of Maryland offers significant resources for career and professional development. The appointment will begin in August 2024. The initial appointment is for a period of two years, with a possible extension to a third year. The successful applicant will have received a Ph.D. in mathematics, quantitative biology, or statistics by August 1, 2024, and not earlier than May 1, 2021.
