Messina College at Boston College invites applications for the Assistant Professor of the Practice of Mathematics position. For candidates with considerable teaching experience, a higher rank may be considered. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a three-year renewable contract to begin in the 2024 fall semester. The teaching expectation is six-semester courses per year, typically a 3-3 semester load. This position involves teaching as well as advising students at Messina College. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2024.

About Messina College:

Messina College is a new two-year residential college division of Boston College that will offer an associate’s degree program for 100 first-generation and low-income students annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program aims to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or begin their professional careers. Messina College students will live and study on the Brookline Campus of Boston College and have full access to BC’s facilities and programs.

Qualifications Our priority is to hire an outstanding educator qualified to teach Principles of Statistics for Life and Social Sciences. We seek candidates with genuine interest and expertise in working with first-generation college students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach courses in Applied Mathematics, e.g., Statistics, Data Science and can demonstrate commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field. Requirements include a Ph.D. or equivalent in mathematics.
