Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for tenure-track positions in Mathematics at the assistant professor level to begin August 15, 2024. The department includes 17 professorial rank faculty members and 9 instructors and lecturers. The research activities of the department are structured around four groups: Algebra and Number Theory, Analysis and Geometry, Partial Differential Equations and Numerical Analysis, Probability and Statistics. Faculty in the department teach a mixture of service courses in large lectures and smaller advanced courses up to the graduate level. The Department has about 100 students enrolled in its Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, and is undergoing final review to launch a PhD program shortly. The language of instruction is English.

Only applicants holding a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or Applied Mathematics and showing a strong commitment to teaching and research will be considered. We encourage applicants whose research areas mesh in or complement the existing strengths in the department. The initial appointment is for a period of four years to allow for a pre-tenure review. In exceptional cases, an appointment at a higher rank than Assistant Professor may be considered. Visiting or sabbatical appointments at all ranks may also be possible.
