Position Description
The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science at Belmont University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning August 1, 2024. The successful candidate will be joining a collaborative department which serves a diverse population of undergraduate mathematics, computer science, and data science majors. Our faculty members provide high-quality learning experiences in a small class environment and engage undergraduates in a variety of research experiences. Job responsibilities include twenty-four hours of undergraduate teaching per year (typically four three-hour courses each semester), as well as academic advising, scholarly activity, and other departmental, college, and university responsibilities. Faculty may also have opportunities to develop study abroad programs, teach during summer sessions, participate in faculty development programming, and utilize undergraduate research funds. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the excellence in teaching undergraduates of all levels, a willingness to teach in Belmont’s general education program, and the ability to sustain scholarly research that includes undergraduates. Due to our department's growth in computer science and data science, candidates with experience and interest in these fields are encouraged to apply. At Belmont, it is understood that scholarship encompasses the scholarship of teaching, as well as scholarship of discovery, integration, and application. A Ph.D. in mathematics, or a closely related field, or progress towards a terminal degree is required; teaching experience strongly preferred. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants will be required to submit an electronic version of a Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, Teaching Philosophy, and a Response to Belmont’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Path to 2030 in order to complete the online application. Review of applications will begin on October 1 and continue until the position is filled. Preference will be given to applications which arrive by October 1.
