APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Ensuring accessibility is a key aspect of SLMath’s mission. 

To ensure equality of opportunity for applicants outside program organizers’ academic circles, SLMath developed a two-phase, partially anonymized process to select its postdoctoral fellows.  

To apply for a postdoctoral fellowship, please provide the information outlined below.

A - Required Anonymous Materials. 

Please prepare a single PDF containing the following anonymized information. - Note: Non-anonymized applications will be removed from the postdoctoral application pool and will only be considered as part of the Research Membership application pool.

0) Please list only the expected or actual month and year you completed your Ph.D. at the top of this anonymized document (i.e.: MM/YYYY).  

1) A one-page description of 1 or 2 solo or co-authored work(s) (e.g., paper(s), theses, results) from the last five years in which you played a major role. Describe the main ideas of the work, your role in the work, as well as how the work fits into the larger context of your field and the program.

- Note: To ensure anonymity, when describing your role, please use the first person (I, me); when mentioning co-author(s) please use variables X, Y, Z, or we. You may use full names of researchers when quoting their work provided they are not co-authors, nor Ph.D. advisors, nor mentors (again, use variables in such cases.) Please do not specify relationships (e.g., “my” advisor, “my” mathematical siblings, “my” mentor) you may have to others.

2) A one-page (at most) personal statement which discusses:

a) how your work and interests align with the program 

b) ways that you may have been engaged in any of the following:

(i) organization of or active participation in workshops, seminars, or conferences;
(ii) mentorship either as a mentee or a mentor;
(iii) forming and sustaining collaborations;
(iv) any other activities aimed at building community or broadening participation in mathematics.

Optional: If you wish to share additional information such as obstacles you may have overcome to reach your current career stage, you may do so.
