Position Type: Postdoctoral

Subject Area: Area of analysis of nonlinear Maxwell equations
Application Deadline: 2023/11/05 11:59PMhelp popup (posted 2023/09/25)
Position Description:

The CRC is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Its goal is to analytically understand, numerically simulate, and eventually manipulate wave propagation under realistic scenarios by intertwining analysis and numerics, cf. http://www.waves.kit.edu

Two analytical projects A5 and A6 treat Maxwell equations with various nonlinear materials laws.
In project A5 we are developing a wellposedness theory and study the long-time behavior of solutions. Within project A6 we prove the existence and properties of special waveforms like time-periodic localized waves or rogue waves. Both projects interact on the question of the stability of these solutions. We welcome your application if you are a postdoctoral researcher and your interest fits one of the two projects. Your expertise lies in wellposedness theory, dispersive estimates, and/or the long-time behavior of nonlinear wave-type equations (project A5) or the calculus of variations, spectral theory, and/or bifurcation methods (project A6).

Depending on your research interest, you will work on either of the two projects or jointly with both projects. Contract duration is limited to two years.
You have access to the lecture program, funds for traveling and guests, and the interdisciplinary research network of the CRC. Teaching opportunities can be offered, too.

The following qualifications are required:
  • You hold a PhD in Mathematics.
  • Your research profile fits the topics of A5 or A6 or both.
  • You have some international experience.
  • You are open-minded, active and have a good command of the English language.
Your application should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, links to publications and doctoral thesis, copies of degree certificate(s), a career and research plan (2-4 pages), and two referees' contact information in one PDF file. In the research plan, you may indicate your preference concerning the two projects.

We offer an attractive and modern workplace with access to excellent facilities of KIT, diverse and responsible tasks, a wide scope of advanced training options, supplementary pension with the VBL (Pension Authority for Employees in the Public Service Sector), flexible working time models, a job ticket (BW) allowance, and a cafeteria/canteen.

We prefer to balance the number of employees (f/m/d). Therefore, we kindly ask female applicants to apply for this job. If qualified, severely disabled persons will be preferred. Applications should be submitted online to office@waves.kit.edu by November 5th, 2023. For further information please contact Prof. Dr. Roland Schnaubelt (roland.schnaubelt@kit.edu) or Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Reichel (wolfgang.reichel@kit.edu).

We are not accepting applications for this job through MathJobs.Org right now. Please see the job description above on how to apply.
