Associate/Full Professor – Applied Mathematics 

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Department of Applied Mathematics at Florida Polytechnic University, a tenure-equivalent institution, seeks candidates for up to two faculty positions at the associate or full professor rank who possess outstanding teaching skills, an active and successful research program, and a willingness to perform service activities that enhance the educational mission of the university and support the broader mathematical community.

Applicants for this position must hold the rank of associate or full professor at their current institution.

The Department of Applied Mathematics at Florida Polytechnic University has a strong and traditional degree program that is both innovative and flexible. The Bachelor of Science degree in applied mathematics consists of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, introduction to proofs, real analysis, and a variety of upper division courses. We also require additional courses in coding and a 4-course interdisciplinary sequence in a related field or department. In addition, the department teaches courses in support of engineering, computer science, physics, and data science.

Applicants must provide evidence of highly successful college-level teaching, a plan for new or continued scholarship, and a commitment to do the service expected of a university faculty member.  Faculty are expected to participate in external funding efforts, advise undergraduate students, and to assist in the broader educational mission of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
·         Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics
·         Evidence of successful university-level teaching
·         Hold the rank of associate or full professor

DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
·         A record of scholarship commensurate with rank and time in the profession.
·         Experience with curriculum development
·         Service record commensurate with time in the profession
·         Evidence of leadership potential
·         Participation in obtaining funding or work on funded projects
·         Experience with undergraduate research projects

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 
We seek candidates who will immerse themselves in the mission of the department. This will involve the development and instruction of upper division courses, recruitment of students, mentoring and advising for the major, working on capstone projects, development of interdisciplinary course sequences that complement the major, and a focus on career and graduate school opportunities for our students. As a STEM-only university, Florida Poly focuses considerable attention on the first- and second-year mathematics courses. The successful applicant will have strong teaching skills and be willing to push against educational norms to develop exciting and innovative curricula for these courses that enhance the overall educational experience of our students.
