A position exists for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics to work on topics in arithmetic geometry related to Shimura varieties with Dr Rong Zhou. This can be interpreted loosely and applications are welcome from a broad range of areas in arithmetic geometry. The position is funded by UKRI as part of the ERC Starting Grant guarantee scheme.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research projects. You will be expected to plan and manage your own research and administration, with guidance if required; write scientific publications for peer review; be able to communicate material of a technical nature to a range of audiences; and be able to build internal and external contacts relating to the research area. You will also be encouraged to take the opportunity to interact with other members of the number theory group and may be asked to assist in the organising of study groups and seminars.

The position comes with limited funding for travel and computing expenses.

The successful candidate will have completed a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field by the start date of the position.

Start date: 1 September 2024

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
