Position Description
Three Visiting Assistant Professor positions available at at the Department of Probability and Statistics, CIMAT, Guanajuato, Mexico The Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT-CONAHCYT: http://www.cimat.mx/ https://www.cimat.mx/en) in Guanajuato, GTO, Mexico, seeks applications from ambitious, highly motivated and talented individuals with a PhD, to fill three positions as a visiting assistant professor. This position comes with a two-year contract, with the potential for a third-year extension. The position should start between March and August 2024. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree obtained within the last six years in the fields of Statistics and/or Probability. They should be willing to play an active role in improving or expanding our research lines and enhancing the national and international reputation of our graduate programs. In particular, candidates are expected to work in cutting-edge research areas. Preference will be given to profiles related to Statistics and current related areas such as complex data analysis, big data, complex models, computationally intensive methodologies, or at the intersection of these areas, covering both theory and applications. Additionally, applicants working in the interface with Probability Theory are specially sought. The appointee should have a strong commitment to both research and teaching, as well as to interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with the public and private sectors, with the support of CIMAT's collaborative environment. Furthermore, they are expected to make a significant contribution to increasing the competitiveness of the department. They should also make a substantial contribution to our undergraduate and graduate programs (https://www.cimat.mx/oferta-educativa/) by teaching one course per semester at either level. CIMAT is part of the network of public research centers of the National Council for Humanities, Science, and Technology (CONAHCYT, https://conahcyt.mx/), and it is formed by three departments (areas): Basic Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, and Computing. The Probability and Statistics Department faculty at Guanajuato consists of nine researchers in Probability and Stochastic Processes and eight researchers in the field of Statistics and its applications. The Department provides an excellent environment for academic career development including for early career researchers. We maintain fruitful cooperation with many prestigious institutions around the world and we constitute one of the most active and renowned research groups in Latin America. Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the position: i) An academic career with scientific achievements in accordance with the length of time passed after the doctorate. iii) Teaching experience in Statistics and/or Probability is desirable, in order to train students at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels.
