Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a newly endowed Professor of the Practice who will serve as Director of Inclusive Pedagogy in Mathematics. This is a non-tenure-track, open rank position beginning in Fall 2024 with a 3-2 teaching load and an expectation of additional contributions towards the educational mission of the department. The Director of Inclusive Pedagogy will work alongside the Director of Teaching and the Director of Undergraduate Studies, with the goal of establishing and implementing best practices for inclusive pedagogy in the department. Possible activities include organizing workshops, performing research on inclusive pedagogy, attending conferences on mathematics education, and performing classroom observations. Collaboration with Vanderbilt’s Center for Teaching, Course Assistant Program, STEM Training and Education Project, and HHMI Inclusive Excellence team will be encouraged. The exact duties will depend on the interests of the Director.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related discipline. Scholars whose research explores the development of inclusive pedagogies, STEM higher-education identity development, and structural barriers to equity are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should also have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and program development. This is a term appointment, eligible for renewal, contingent on performance. The initial term is for three years. Professors of the Practice are supported through mentoring within the department and across the University. Professors of the Practice are eligible for promotion.
