Position Description
Applications are invited for a new postdoctoral research position in large-scale conic optimization at the Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University. The position is funded through the Air Force Office of Scientific Research project “Efficient primal-dual interior-point methods for non-symmetric cone programming” of Prof. Dávid Papp and is available immediately. The project focuses on the development of efficient algorithms for non- symmetric cone programming and polynomial optimization for large-scale applications.The position will give the opportunity to candidates with a strong theoretical background to
enrich their research profile with application-driven research while cultivating their passion for
optimization algorithms in a vibrant and collaboration-driven department. There are no teaching
requirements of this position, but the scholar may choose to teach 1-2 (undergraduate or
graduate) courses each year to help with building a well-rounded teaching portfolio and for
additional compensation. (Courses are assigned by the department after close consultation with
the scholar.)
Qualifications
● Ph.D. in Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial and Systems Engineering,
Computer Science, or another related field.
● Must have experience in continuous optimization algorithms or numerical linear
algebra.
● Excellent programming skills (Matlab or Python or equivalent scientific programming
languages).
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Terms
The position is available immediately; applications will be reviewed until the position is
filled. The initial appointment is for one year, with a possible extension for an additional year.
The base salary for this position is $62,000 per year, additional compensation is available with
teaching.
