Position Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Washington College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Computer Science starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and a strong interest in developing a career as a teacher-scholar at a liberal arts institution, and will show significant promise as a scholar in computer science or a related field. The salary range for this position is $78,000-$82,000 with opportunities to apply for start-up funds, research funding, and conference travel support. Washington College is also an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity, which provides independent mentoring and professional development to faculty. Job Duties Essential responsibilities include teaching a 3-3 course load in-person, supporting students through academic advising and research mentorship, continued scholarship, and service to the Department & College. Tenure expectations involve teaching excellence, a pattern of productive scholarship leading to peer-reviewed publication, and effective participation in the shared governance of the College. Qualifications Qualified candidates will have, at the time employment begins, a Ph.D. in Computer Science or in a closely related discipline with a primary research interest that intersects with computer science. Appropriate fields include but are not limited to computer science, data science, numerical analysis, computational mathematics, digital humanities, computational physics, computational biology, computational chemistry, and epidemiology. The position is open to any specialization. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is a vibrant department that offers degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science.
