Illinois Wesleyan University Bloomington, IL 61701 Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Mathematics. Employment will begin in August 2024 and the standard teaching load is eight courses per year. All candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics by August 1, 2024. Areas of interest include computational mathematics, financial mathematics and statistics, but other areas will be considered. The successful candidate must be able to teach our core mathematics curriculum. Ability to teach a 2-course math sequence for Elementary Education majors is a plus. Candidates should be dedicated to excellent teaching in a liberal arts environment where undergraduate research is encouraged. The opportunity to participate in university-wide general education programs is available for interested faculty.

Illinois Wesleyan University is a highly selective undergraduate university of about 1,600 students, located in Bloomington, Illinois, a community of about 130,000 when combined with the population of its twin city, Normal. This year, the average composite ACT score for Illinois Wesleyan first-year students was 27, an average high school GPA of 3.74, and almost one third were the top 10 percent of their high school class.

The mathematics program maintains a healthy balance between applied and pure mathematics. Faculty areas of professional expertise include graph theory and combinatorics, differential equations, dynamical systems, probability and statistics, survival analysis, and computational statistics, with an affiliated faculty member in number theory and cryptography.
