University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for Van Vleck Visiting Assistant Professorships with partial funding from the National Science Foundation to begin on August 19, 2024, contingent on budgetary approval. This is a postdoctoral position in Computational Science and Cloud-Resolving Model Simulations Across Scales.

The successful candidate will conduct research in computational science and cloud-resolving model simulations across scales, using discontinuous Galerkin methods and adaptive mesh refinement. The position will be supervised by Prof. Sam Stechmann. Information about Sam Stechmann's current research is available at his faculty website, https://www.math.wisc.edu/~stechmann/

Appointments are normally for a fixed term of three years. The teaching load will usually be 2 courses per year, with the possibility of one year with 1 course. Promise of excellence in research and teaching is important. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and related fields are also welcome and encouraged to apply, and if appropriate, the position could be a postdoctoral research associate position in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences for a fixed term of two years and without teaching.
