Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full time Lecturer III position to begin August 26, 2024. This is a non-tenure track position with a university year appointment (i.e. runs September 1 through May 31 each year). The initial appointment period will be three years and the appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the college.

 Responsibilities:

A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties. Lecturer III positions in mathematics carry a teaching load of two courses per semester as well as a significant administrative responsibility. In particular, this position will support the management of the Department’s Math Learning Center (MLC), including walk-in tutoring (Math Lab) and testing (Mastery Assessment) centers, as well as associated training of undergraduate and graduate students working in the Learning Center. A substantial fraction of the teaching responsibilities will be concentrated in our introductory program.

 Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have a doctorate in Mathematics prior to the start date of the position and have substantial experience teaching mathematics at the collegiate level. Criteria for selection and renewal include excellence in classroom teaching, demonstrated administrative skill, and the ability to work productively with faculty and staff in our department.
