Job Description Flora Philip Fellowship UE08 £45,585 - £54,395 (per annum) School of Mathematics Full Time 35 hours per week Fixed term for four years The School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh is pleased to invite applications for the 2023 Flora Philip Fellowship. This four-year Fellowship is specifically aimed at promising early-career postdoctoral researchers from backgrounds that are under-represented in the mathematical sciences academic community (e.g. gender, minority ethnicity, disability, disadvantaged circumstances, etc.). The Fellowship aims to provide a supportive and collegial environment for early-career researchers to develop their research and prepare themselves, with support from an academic mentor, for future independent roles in academia and beyond. The starting salary will be at a junior faculty level (Lecturer or Assistant Professor, Grade UE8). The post is available either on a full-time or part-time basis. Flora Philip Fellowships honour the pioneering achievements of Flora Philip (1865-1943) who was the first female member of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and one of the first women to graduate from the University of Edinburgh in 1893: (https://www.ed.ac.uk/alumni/services/notable-alumni/alumni-in-history/flora-philip) We seek candidates from diverse backgrounds that can demonstrate high potential for independent research in an area that aligns with the School’s activities. The Fellow will be associated to one of the School’s existing research themes. The Fellow will also be offered an academic mentor, who will provide support in pursuing follow-on applications for longer-term external funding to establish the Fellow’s research vision and future academic career. Requests for part-time working and/or flexible working patterns will be considered favourably, and the duration of the Fellowship may be adjusted accordingly, on a pro-rata basis. All applicants should apply online and submit the following documents: 1-page cover letter that must include: (1) a short description of why you are eligible to apply specifically for the Flora Philip Fellowship, which is for early-career postdoctoral researchers from under-represented backgrounds (2) the research theme within the School that you wish to be associated with, as listed athttps://www.maths.ed.ac.uk/school-of-mathematics/research.
