Lycoming College is hiring an Assistant Professor of Statistics. Lycoming College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Statistics position that is open within the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate will teach an average of five courses per year, several of which have labs. These courses will include introductory statistics, multivariable statistics, a two course sequence aligned to the Society of Actuaries’ Exam P, and a course aligned to the Society of Actuaries’ Exam FM. The successful candidate will also revise our introductory statistics course by collaborating with faculty in our natural and social sciences departments, oversee the multiple sections of introductory statistics that are offered each semester, coordinate our interdisciplinary Actuarial Science major, incorporate technology and software into their courses as appropriate, and offer statistical assistance to advanced students working on capstone and honors projects.

What We Are Looking For:

As a department, we strive to make math accessible and create meaningful educational experiences for all of our students. We recognize that students come to us with a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of preparation. We welcome diversity and we strive to support all of our students. In the past decade, over half of our math and actuarial science graduates have been women and one third of our graduates college-wide have been either international students or domestic students of color. The successful candidate is expected to be an effective teacher who will uphold these values and be a respectful advocate for all of their students. While effective teaching is the most important part of this position, service to the college and scholarship are required in order to earn tenure as well as promotion.
