Job Summary

The Mathematics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics is seeking to fill a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position in mathematics education with appointment beginning September 16, 2024.

Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach undergraduate mathematics courses for future elementary and secondary teachers as well as other mathematics courses, and to maintain an active scholarship program that provides research and practical experiences for undergraduate students . The department specifically seeks candidates in mathematics education that complement department needs.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $86,508 - $96,408. If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $102,648 - $106,740. Required Qualifications

EITHER (1) a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or closely related field AND Master’s degree in Mathematics (or equivalent coursework), OR (2) a Ph.D. in Mathematics and significant experience in research and teaching in mathematics education. Must provide evidence of (or potential for) high quality teaching and research with students. Must provide evidence of (or potential for) research productivity. Must provide evidence of (or potential for) promoting diversity and inclusivity in higher education as well as a dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department. Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in an area compatible with or broadening the research activities of the department. Special areas of interest include K-12 mathematics education, undergraduate mathematics education, K-12 teacher preparation and professional development, mathematics curriculum development, and active student-centered learning in mathematics classrooms Experience and commitment to excellence in teaching mathematics at the university level. Experience supervising teacher candidates or undergraduate student research. Interest in pursuing opportunities for funding, or participating in grant activities with colleagues. Special Conditions

The Cal Poly Mathematics Department has approximately 32 permanent faculty, 20 full-time and part-time lecturers, 10 graduate teaching associates, 2 administrative staff, and 275 math majors.
