The Position: One appointment in mathematics education at the assistant professor level in our vibrant, student-centered Department of Mathematics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (three per term), including covering the mathematics methods course in education and the fundamental concepts of modern mathematics course for elementary education majors. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to professional service that supports and recruits students into Concordia’s double major in mathematics and education and the mathematics endorsement for elementary education. Participation, especially involving undergraduates, in scholarly research related to mathematics or the teaching and learning of mathematics, is also expected.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in mathematics or mathematics education (or ABD with a clear completion timeline), plus experience teaching mathematics at the secondary level, is required for a tenure-track appointment. A master’s degree in either mathematics or education, plus 3 years of teaching experience, at least 1 of which must be aligned to the scope and content area of instruction, is required for a continuing appointment. Evidence of teaching excellence is essential, as is a passion for and an understanding of mathematics and education programs at a liberal arts undergraduate institution. The successful candidate must demonstrate sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college of the Lutheran (ELCA) church.
