Position Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Western Carolina University is inviting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position in Mathematics with the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2024. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related mathematical field by the date of appointment. Demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, scholarship, and service is expected. Preference will be given to applicants who have teaching, research, or other professional experience directly related to data science.Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has 18 tenure-line faculty and supports undergraduate programs in mathematics, mathematics education, and computer science, and a graduate certificate in data science. The mathematics program has concentrations in actuarial science, applied mathematics, data science, mathematics education and traditional mathematics. The typical teaching load is 3-3. Class enrollments range from 40 in freshman level courses to the teens for upper-level courses. Students are actively engaged in undergraduate research, contests, and extracurricular activities.
