The tenured/tenure track teaching faculty generally have a full range of responsibilities, including teaching, research, scholarship and other creative professional work, and service to the unit, the university and the public.

Job Description The Department of Mathematics at The University of Akron, a state-assisted metropolitan university with approximately 16,000 students, invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the mathematics of data science and/or scientific computing. The job responsibilities include research and teaching at the university level. Preference will be given to candidates with a potential for collaboration with the members of the Department, College of Engineering and Polymer Science, or across campus. Salary is commensurate with background and experience. Startup funds are available.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. Degree in Mathematics or a closely related field by the time of employment and are expected to provide evidence of an active research program as well as evidence of teaching experience and interest in directing student research. Priority will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience and demonstrated interest in pursuing external funding.

The department has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research and offers Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Applied Mathematics as well as an accelerated 5-year BS/MS program. The department is housed in the College of Engineering and Polymer Science which offers Doctorate degrees in Engineering. The successful applicant may have the opportunity to work with students in the Integrated Biosciences Doctoral Program and with faculty in the School of Computing, which the University is currently developing.

The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
