The Interdisciplinary Program in Data Science and Statistics at the University of Richmond invites applications for two full-time, visiting assistant professor positions beginning in August 2024. These are one-year appointments, renewable annually for up to three years, contingent upon performance, budget, and continued need.

We seek candidates with a strong commitment to student-centered and inclusive undergraduate education who will also enhance the academic opportunities provided by our program. Successful candidates will teach three courses per semester and will be appointed to one of the many departments that contribute to our interdisciplinary program. All areas of data science and statistics are welcome, including work consisting of applications of computational methodologies within other disciplines. A Ph.D. is required prior to the start date. We seek candidates whose experience in teaching courses in data science, as well as research and/or service, has equipped them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are firmly dedicated to these goals, striving to ensure that all students interested in data science can access the opportunities, acquire the requisite skills, and receive the necessary support to succeed. We seek colleagues who share these aspirations, with a mutual commitment to broadening access and inclusivity in general, and within the field of data science specifically, a vision that closely aligns with the University's strategic plan (https://strategicplan.richmond.edu), as well as that of the School of Arts & Sciences (https://as.richmond.edu/).

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and a wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students “to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society.”

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community that values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the program, please see https://datascience.richmond.edu
