Position Description

The College of Science (COS) at the University of Texas at Arlington is welcoming applications for two non-tenure track faculty positions in Statistics or Data Science at the levels of Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction. Additionally, there is an opening for a lab coordinator position. These positions place a strong emphasis on teaching or overseeing labs and are dedicated to statistics, data science, computational methods, and programming courses for both the Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BS DS) and the Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Data Science (MS ASDS) programs within the College of Science at UTA.

As full-time, 9-month non-tenure track (NTT) faculty members, their duties will include teaching a total of eight courses within the BS DS and MS ASDS programs during academic semesters. Additionally, during the summer, faculty members may be requested to teach and oversee capstone research projects and will be compensated for their summer teaching assignments. The specific teaching assignments will be determined by the Program Director, taking into account program requirements and student enrollment. In cases where courses within the MS ASDS or BS Data Science programs do not meet minimum enrollment requirements, faculty members may be reassigned to other responsibilities that support administration, student recruitment, and curriculum development. The lab coordinator is responsible for leading all lab discussions that are included as part of the course projects for MS ASDS program.

Candidates for Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction positions must possess a doctoral degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a data-intensive scientific field. The minimum educational qualification for a lab coordinator is a master’s degree in data science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a data-intensive scientific field and exhibit a high level of proficiency in programming skills in R, SAS, Python, or other programming languages relevant to Data Science.

The Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction should show proficiency in techniques, programming languages, and software stack employed in contemporary Data Science. Candidates must demonstrate a solid commitment to teaching excellence and should share the university’s core values of fostering an open and inclusive environment that promotes diversity and participation of groups that are currently underrepresented in the fields of Applied Statistics and Data Science.

Full consideration will be given to applicants who have worked as a Statistician or Data Scientist or have experience in Statistics or Data Science research or teaching.
