The Department of Mathematics at Rice University invites applications for multiple positions at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor (depending on experience) in the Department of Mathematics, commencing in Fall 2024. This is a cluster hire effort that is part of a new Howard Hughes Medical Institute-funded Driving Change Initiative at Rice University.

The positions advertised are full-time, 9-month academic calendar, non-tenure track positions. Assistant Teaching Professors can be promoted to Associate/Full Teaching Professors in accordance with university-set criteria and timelines. The initial appointment is for three years.

A PhD in Mathematics or a related field is required by July 1st, 2024, as is a strong track record of inclusive teaching at the introductory undergraduate level. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, hired candidates will engage in activities dedicated to student success and promoting equity and retention of students in STEM fields. Faculty in Rice’s Teaching Professor ranks are expected to become pedagogical leaders in their departments, and to provide excellent teaching-related service. Thus, dedication to pedagogical innovation, curricular reform, and/or math education research is also desired.
