Program Description
The Concourse Program at MIT invites applicants to apply for the position of lecturer in mathematics. Concourse lecturers join an interdisciplinary program for approximately fifty first-year students, in which we teach physics, mathematics, and chemistry integrated with the teaching of humanities. Your primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year mathematics curriculum in calculus, multivariable calculus, and differential equations. You will also participate in a weekly program seminar, student advising, and other activities to enhance the educational experience of our students. Concourse is comprised of students and instructors who have broad intellectual interests and wish to address the fundamental question of what is the good life for human beings, both as individuals and as members of a society. The program asks if the study of science can adequately shed light on this question and likewise if reflecting on the question of the good life can deepen our understanding of science. Concourse proposes to engage these issues in a profound, sustained, and integrated way. This position is ideal for someone interested in engaging broadly with the Concourse community and committed to student learning and development. Full consideration is guaranteed to applicants who apply by end of day on January 4, 2024. Job Requirements REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mathematics, three years of teaching experience, and evidence of a commitment to teaching and education. Please demonstrate evidence of interest in engaging with the Concourse community and with its commitment to student learning and development as part of your application material. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check. We are not accepting applications for this job through MathJobs.Org right now.
