Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The School of Mathematics at the University of Minnesota invites applications for one post-doctoral position in mathematical biology under the supervision of M.Carme Calderer. The position is supported by the National Science Foundation. The program is part of a collaboration group on the study of bacteriophage viruses. The research topic intertwines partial differential equations, liquid crystals, soft matter and materials science. One main goal is to use mathematical and computational tools that have proved successful in soft matter physics and materials sciences to inform properties of condensed matter in biology.

We seek a candidate with strong background on partial differential equations, numerical simulations (such as based on the finite element method and molecular dynamics) and with some interest or experience in modeling of soft matter physics, liquid crystals or biophysics. The salary is to be determined by the School of Mathematics. There will be an allowance for travel, including to several meetings and conferences in the US and abroad. The preferred starting date is late August 2024, and the duration is two years.

Applications will be reviewed starting February 20, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. Please contact M.Carme Calderer (calde014@umn.edu) for any additional inquiries about the position.

Applicants should submit an AMS cover sheet, complete curriculum vitae, a description of their research and teaching, and three letters of recommendation to http://www.mathjobs.org. A cover letter relating the applicant's research goals and qualifications to the projects is highly recommended.

Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. The University of Minnesota is an Equal Opportunity Educator and Employer.
