Visiting Assistant Professor - Mathematics

Appointment: One-year visiting assistant professor in mathematics for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Responsibilities/Description: Teach six courses for the year, to include a mix of lower- and upper-division courses. Interest and expertise in teaching statistics or calculus is especially valued. The specific courses will depend on the applicant's interests and background.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree (ABD considered) in mathematics or a related discipline and a commitment to liberal arts education are required.

Compensation and Benefits:
Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Faculty salaries at the University of Puget Sound are based on a common salary scale based on experience. Assistant Professor salaries begin at $71,492 annualized for an Assistant Professor with a terminal degree in their field in their first year of full-time postdoctoral teaching through $80,003 annualized based on experience.

While not an exhaustive list, the following are some ways applicants can express their qualification:About the Mathematics program: The Mathematics program offers courses that support a variety of pathways through the Mathematics major, ranging from more applied to more theoretical. In recent years, an average of 18 students have graduated each year having earned a Mathematics major. Mathematics students frequently participate in research mentored by faculty members (and supported by university summer awards) and also often participate in activities such as the Putnam exam and the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The curriculum supports other disciplines as well, with a variety of lower- and upper-division courses including a three-semester applied statistics sequence. Faculty interests include scientific computing, applied topology, algebraic combinatorics, and algebraic geometry.
